We just returned from spending the last week of April, 2007 at Playa Del Sol Los
Muertos Beach. This is a clean, well maintained complex. At check-in, we were asked
if we were interested in a timeshare presentation. Our firm "no!" was taken
We stayed in a one bedroom unit with an ocean view from the small balcony. As you
enter, there is a good-sized vanity area, a small closet and a stacking washer and
dryer. The small bathroom is just past that. The bedroom was good-sized and had
adequate storage for two people. The bed was comfortable, rare in Mexico.
The living room, kitchenette, and dining area are pretty small, but nicely decorated.
The decor is Mexican style, the walls are white with a few pictures here and there.
The rooms are no where near as nice as those at Playa Del Sol Grand, but we
prefer this location.
My brother and sister-in-law decided to join us at the last minute. We were told that
the one bedroom condo would accomodate four people. They said the sofa bed was
the worst ever-even after housekeeping brought up an egg crate topper. The one
bedroom might be fine for a couple with two small children, but it was cramped with
four adults. Not enough closet space, bathroom too small, exactly four glasses, etc.
The staff at Playa Del Sol was wonderful! Carlos welcomed us with beach chairs
every day and was quick to bring a fresh drink, Rosa kept our room spotless, and
the front desk staff was always courteous.
One of my friends was bothered by the fact that you go through the garage to get to
the beach. It's a small, very clean, well-lighted and secure garage. I didn't bother me
The pool is really small, but we enjoyed it in the evening. Plenty of chairs for
everyone, nicely done pool deck.
We plan on returning to Playa Del Sol. We loved the location and the staff. The one
bedroom would have been perfectly adequate for two people.
Liked — Location, location, location!
Disliked — Some of the areas were too small, the bathroom and the pool come to
Stayed April 2007, traveled as a couple
the staff was so incredibly helpful that each one of the four of us brought it up
separately wondering if the others were noticing the same thing. The front desk, the
maids, EVERYONE went above and beyond. The restaurant was great. Service was
far above par. Our waiter, Alejandro (Alex) deserves special mention for going so far
out of his way to help us. He was, well, great isn't a big enough word! Our rooms
were spotlessly cleaned each day, the pool was clean and BLUE not green, and we
were never approached again after one "No, gracias" to the time share people. I do
not like condos and don't stay in beach front hotels usually because I like to stay in a
less touristy area when in Mexico but this hotel was just charming. The view, the
beach, every part - it was just great. Oh, and there is an elevator right in the middle
of the building!
Our first time to Mexico and Puerto Vallarta and we are so glad we chose Playa del
Sol Los Muertos Beach! The location is great--walking distance to everything (PV is
pretty hilly so bring good shoes). The hotel is small, with 7 floors. Upper floors offer
the best views of the beach. We stayed in a 1 bedroom with a "partial" ocean view
from our balcony and it offered a decent view. Our room on the 6th floor (606) was
decorated with a Mexican flair, complete with a tiled floor.
The kitchenette was adequate, though a bit run down. And, as with any room by the
beach, there was a bit of a musty scent. Housekeeping came everyday and mopped
and even washed our dishes. The bed was a bit hard and the bedroom was open to
the living room. OK for a family, maybe not okay for 2 couples sharing. They did
provide a large jug of water for drinking.
The hotel is right on the beach. It is located on a hillside so that the street entrance
is on the 3rd floor. Pool is on level 2, and the beach is on level 1. You take the
elevator to level 1, walk 50 steps through the tiny garage, cross a tiny, not busy
street, and you're on the beach. The bar/restaurant is decent, but be sure to travel
around because there are restaurants/bars galore nearby. Ismael waited on us,
bringing us beers and many fish tacos so we never had to leave our palapa. He was
very nice and helped us with our spanish. There is also a bathroom on the beach
behind the bar that is private for hotel guests, which came in handy after cervezas
and margaritas. There was a bit of construction going on beside the bar, and in
some of the rooms, but we hardly noticed it.
Overall, the hotel is not very fancy but it is a great location in town and it has
character. Los Muertos is a "locals" beach so it always has folks on it, including
beach vendors who pass by every 2 minutes asking you to buy something. They do
not harass you and you can keep your head down or say "no gracias." Or, you can
buy some good stuff and bargain--remember, a buck is much more to them than it
might be to you! This is a very active beach--vendors, parasailers, boat rides, lots of
families, etc., so if you're looking for quiet this is probably not the place for you.
The weather in August was HOT. The hotel provides palapas and beach chairs
which was a must for me and the tropical sun. The beach is lively and entertaining
and the water warm and calm, except for a couple days when the waves were really
big. No shelling here, just good old sandy beaches. Saw a dolphin only one time.
Had the most amazing sunsets I've ever seen on the beach. We are planning on
going again and if we stay in town, we'll stay here.
Regarding the time share issue, we declined at check in and weren't asked again. In
town there are many folks selling timeshares and activities, so be prepared. There's
lots of info about this on many PV websites. We just said "not today" and kept
Our trip to Puerto Vallarta was great. We just got back yesterday from our 6 day trip.
We wished we could have stayed at least 2 more days. We booked our trip through
the hotel's website directly. We got a great rate. The Playa Del Sol at Los Muertos
Beach (also called Playa Del Sol Centro) was a great location. The beach was only
steps away. The beach had plenty of "palapas" (thatched umbrellas) with lounge
The hotel's restaurant "La Pirata" (the Pirate) was delicious. We had many
breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. The steak tacos were sooooo good. The prices
were great too. Drinks were very inexpensive. On our first day there, our group
ordered a 5 beers, 2 margaritas, and 3 soft drinks and the bill was only $12 US
dollars. Amazing. We thought it would have been double. We were pleasantly
The restaurant staff was great. They were very friendly and helpful. In fact, all of the
staff at the hotel was great. The concierge ladies were very nice and helpful. The
people in the parking garage were also very friendly (another bonus of this hotel is
that they have a gated parking area so your rental car is safe).
The decor of the rooms were very nice. Some people have commented on the firm
beds. I agree, the beds are pretty firm, but it didn't bother us at all. The full kitchen
was very nice to have! We had a 2 bed/2 bath suite and it was very spacious. One
room had a king and the other room had 2 twin beds. The suites are equipped with
air conditioning which we pretty much ran the whole time. It was hot....but we had a
The location of the hotel was great. We really felt like being in the city would give us
a more authentic trip to Mexico....rather than staying in a huge resort. We are really
glad we chose to stay here. There is just so much in the area...you can walk down
the beach and find a lot.
We did the canopy tour at El Eden. It is a series of zip lines through the jungle (it's
where "The Preditor" was filmed) It was a blast. The staff was hilarious and we really
had a great time zipping through the jungle.
I could write more....but you get the idea. Our trip was great. This hotel is in a great
location, the beach is fabulous, the staff is wonderful (especially the Pirate
restaurant staff). You will love this hotel! I have attached some pictures of our trip.
